Our Story

Hi there! We're Ryan and Alyssa, the directors of Paper Crane Cinema Co.

I first met Ryan at the Louisville airport. In February of 2014, Ryan was flying into Louisville for a job interview with the production team I worked for, and I was assigned to pick him up and show him around town. I was not very enthused about it, but nevertheless, I showed him around, he got the job, and he moved to Louisville later that month.

Early on into us working on the same production team, Ryan and I worked closely together several late nights in a row on a major video project. We spent so much time together working, having in-depth conversations, and joking around. And that was when I knew we were going to be really good friends. The next year and a half was packed full of laughter, inside jokes, working on projects together, and hanging out outside of work. We were best friends attached at the hip. But regardless of how close we became, I was determined to NEVER become anything more than friends!

In the fall of 2015, I took a job in New York, and the hardest part about moving away was leaving Ryan. But in the months that followed, we only grew closer. Countless nights were spent staying up into the wee hours of the morning laughing, joking, watching movies, having serious conversations, and just being in each other's presence on FaceTime. Around Thanksgiving I realized I had some pretty strong feelings for this guy. Luckily he was feeling the same! Over Christmas break that year, we told each other we liked each other, and went on our first date. And only a month and a half later - we got married!

The beginning of 2016 was a crazy whirlwind for us! I left my job, moved back to Louisville, and got married to the love of my life. And just a few months later, we decided to start a new adventure that combined both of our passions for filmmaking, and that's when Paper Crane Cinema Co. was born. Nearly two years later, it's been a wild ride that only continues to challenge us, grow us, and teach us new things about each other and this field that we love so much. And there is no one else I'd rather be on this incredible journey with.
